artist's biography

Karmella Haynes began formal training in oil on canvas
painting at age 11. Since then, she has completed most
of her work outside of the academic realm. Her figurative
pieces depict intriguingly "familiar" faces in lively scenes
with vivid colors. Karmella is both a freelance artist and
a scientist.She holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics
(Washington University), conducts research in the feild
of synthetic biology, and teaches biology and bioinformatics
as a postdoctoral fellow at Davidson College. Her art has
been showcased in Senegal, West Africa, Tallahassee, FL,
Huntington, PA, and Chicago, IL as well as in her home
town, St. Louis, MO.
